Abstract

This paper addresses the relation or influence between the role of marital status in happiness perception of Spanish entrepreneurs. The variables used in this work are C1 which refers to self-perception of happiness, F11 which refers to marital status and C11 referring to self-religious. Hypotheses refer to a greater perception of happiness if entrepreneurs are married, and also if they are religious. The data analysis was based on the information provided by the European Social Survey (ESS). This is a representative sample of the population over 15 years of age in approximately 30 European countries. It is collected biannually and in Spain, this action is taken by the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS). Since the sample has N= 185 members, and because of the Central Limit Theorem, the distributions can be considered to be behaving as usual, so the ANOVA test is also used. The main findings indicate that married people have a higher perception of happiness than widowers, separated people, divorced people and single. On the other hand, those who declare themselves religious feel happier than those who are not. Finally, it is mentioning the importance of this subject in a post-COVID era

Abstract:

Social entrepreneurship is a complex form of organization, which includes technological organizations, where market-based methods are used to solve social problems. Currently, the issue continues to increase in popularity, but remains poorly understood and its motivations remain undertheorized. The researchers affirm that compassion can complement the individual’s own traditional motivations to influence social entrepreneurship. A model of three mechanisms is presented (integrative thinking, prosocial cost-benefit analysis and commitment to alleviate the suffering of others) that transform compassion into social entrepreneurship and identify the institutional conditions under which it is most likely to be carry on. In this article, we present an introduction on the definition of compassion, a model of how compassion encourages entrepreneurship and a model of the emerging organizational capacity for compassion, and we also discuss the contribution of both models.

Abstract:

The study of entrepreneurship is important to create strategies to motivate value creation and income acquisition based on business development of industry 4.0 firms. In this document we study the perception of happiness in Spanish industry 4.0 technology related entrepreneurs in relation to income acquisition, we seek to find the relationship that occurs between these variables. Currently, there are a limited number of studies that address the relationship between these two variables and in general expectations it is determine that the relationship is natural. Given this previous reality and with the intention of reinventing scientific knowledge in the relationship of happiness and income acquisition, this work presents an analysis of these variables in Spanish industry 4.0 technology related entrepreneurs. A study to discover relationships was carried out using primary data from the barometer of the Center for Sociological Research (CSR). From this data, a quantitative analysis was completed with results showing that the average rate of happiness is greater as incomes increases until a limit (1800€=3.35 increases to 3000€=10.75) and then is reduces again (4500€=6.13). Observations also revealed there’s a lack of progression of the monetary income and perception of happiness relationship and there’s a need to develop strategies that increase the subjective well-being guided in the principles of common good, happiness management, job satisfaction and social relations, among other things and there’s need to confirm this results in other sectors.

Abstract:

Studies on corporate happiness have emerged as a new approach to management and productivity. The theory around this leadership focus could change the way firms arrange their own business objectives and goals. In this paper, happiness, as a construct, is analyzed from an economical and entrepreneurial perspective. The goal is to determine if happiness influences productivity and work environments in technology-based firms (TBF) in Andalucía, Spain. A survey, completed by 41 employees, was elaborated on and applied to a group of employees in TBF, based in Sevilla. The results confirm that a happier environment is present in TBF than in non-technological firms. This is due to the strategies applied in TBF to improve happiness and wellness perception in their employees and the influence in productivity and, therefore, in organizational competitiveness.

Abstract:

In modern times, Knowledge Management (KM) is seen to be a key instrument in developing organizational competitiveness, especially in the context of dynamic organizations, such as knowledge-based firms. In this paper, we assume that firms are capable of developing dynamic functionality through their own initiative; this means that they are able to change and adapt, becoming agile to their surrounding environment. We propose that an approach from complexity theory may explain the phenomena that arises in an organization as it faces turbulent environments for competence. We introduce the importance of complexity approaches to knowledge management. The key questions addressed in this paper are: (1) How is KM managed through complexity theory, ensuring competitiveness is increased? and (2) How does the approach to complexity theory increase the understanding of competitiveness? This research analyses KM tools to implement management systems, based on knowledge and complexity theory. Although competitiveness is perceived as vital for organizations, the approximation of knowledge and complex theory are not yet fully developed and integrated into organizational processes to increase it.

Publication year: 2017

Abstract:

Global manufacturing continues to grow, creating the need for enhanced innovation during New Product Development (NPD); this in-turn requires increased utilization of employee-generated knowledge. Enterprise Social Networks (ESNs), such as Yammer.com, is one method identified which can allow organisations to connect employees across departments and physical boundaries. This paper summarises the results of a dual-moderated focus group conducted with 15 employees of a UK-based sports manufacturer, aimed at identifying the impact of Yammer on employee knowledge generation and sharing during NPD projects. Results indicate that employees see benefit in its use and would welcome greater embeddedness of ESNs in the NPD process. However, barriers are identified which may inhibit its successful deployment, including issues relating to security and intellectual property rights. Identified benefits of using Yammer include: an improved ability to find people with specific domain knowledge; increased awareness of communities of practice; and the matching of problems with solutions.

Abstract

This article analyses the Knowledge Management (KM) and Project Management (PM) practices of manufacturing firms based in Baja California to determine their level of importance in generating competitive advantage in the manufacturing sector in Baja California. Key questions researched in this paper are: 1) How is KM managed through information technologies and organisational systems, ensuring empirical and industrial success? and 2) How do PM strategies increase competitiveness in the Baja California manufacturing sector? The research analyses currently-implemented management systems used for improved KM and PM, based on knowledge and new advantage orientation. One of the limitations found in this research is that several firms do not adopt standardised policies relating to knowledge procurement and development. Although competitiveness is perceived as vital for organisations, the combination of KM and PM are not yet fully developed and integrated into organisational processes to increase competitiveness. It is found that KM and PM have influence and correlations with competitiveness.

Abstract

Higher education has become a cornerstone in the arise of knowledge society conceptualization. This concept covers a new type of social configuration that puts knowledge as the main value in human interaction for future social and economic development and also as one of the main actions to improve in order to gain a better quality of life. In this paper we discuss the importance of this structure and its characteristics, then we focus in the need to generate a higher education curriculum that fits this emphasis in social development of a new knowledge-based society. Finally, we use complex systems simulation to analyze six agents including: 1) Students; 2) Teaching – Teachers; 3) Training plan – Teachers; 4) Scientific research, IT development, innovation and professional performance; 5) Management – Managers; and 6) Environment and relevance or External Agents and five variables for this study: 1) Teaching; 2) Extracurricular activities; 3) Research and development; 4) Management; and 5) Educational culture. The final goal is to propose a curriculum that includes a projection to create knowledge-based society from higher education as a main factor to achieve this objective.

Abstract:

Technology with situational awareness needs a lot of information of the environment to execute the correct task at the correct moment. Location of the user is typical information to achieve the goal. This work proposes a mobile application that enables the indoor location of smartphones using the potential infrastructure given by Wireless Local Area Networks. This infrastructure goes beyond GPS (Global Position System) where signal is weak or is not available for indoors. This application uses an alternative and unconventional method to indoor location using Wi-Fi RSSI fingerprinting as well as an estimation based on Type-2 fuzzy inference systems provided by the developed framework JT2FIS. Wi-Fi Fingerprinting creates a radio map of a given area based on the RSSI data from several access points (APs) and generates a set of RSSI data for a given zone location. Consequently Data Mining is required for clustering the obtained set of data and generating the structure of a Type-2 Mamdani (More)

Abstract:

The use of computational intelligence in a Multi-Agent System (MAS) can aid the process of modelling complex social phenomena. Fuzzy Inference Systems (FIS) have been broadly used in control systems on engineering applications, but this also in Social Simulation could be very useful due the possibility to represent non-linear systems. In Type-2 Fuzzy Logic, uncertainty was introduced on the model enriching the capability of description in complex decision-making systems. In this paper, we introduce an Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Inference System extension for Netlogo, which is a very used computational modelling tool. With this extension, we aim to implement complex decision making systems in MAS and Social Simulation using Type-2 Fuzzy Logic.
